# Broadcasts overview

Send one WhatsApp message to many customers at once, at the time you choose, and see who read it and acted on it.

A broadcast sends an approved template to a list or segment of contacts. Each customer gets it as a personal message in their own chat, with their name and details filled in, and any reply comes straight to your team in **Messaging**. Afterwards, the broadcast shows how many people received it, read it, clicked, and replied.

Rangoli Store, a saree shop in Kochi, uses broadcasts for its Diwali sale. Two weeks before the festival, it sends repeat buyers an early-access offer with a **Shop now** button. By the next morning, the team knows exactly who read it and who tapped through, and sends a reminder only to them.

Businesses use broadcasts for festive sales and new arrivals, back-in-stock alerts, appointment and fee reminders, admission dates, event invitations, and loyalty rewards.

## How a broadcast works

1. **Connect your WhatsApp number** in **Channels**. You do this once. See [Connect a WhatsApp channel](/whatsapp-setup/connect-channel.md).
2. **Create a template and get it approved.** Every broadcast uses a template that Meta has approved, such as `diwali_sale_2026_en`. See [Create a template](/whatsapp-setup/create-template.md).
3. **Choose the audience.** Pick a list such as "Repeat buyers – Oct 2026", or a [segment](/audience/segments.md) that updates itself. You can also [import](/audience/import-export.md) new contacts first.
4. **Schedule and publish.** Set the date, time and daily send count, send a test to your own phone, then publish. See [Send a broadcast](/broadcasts/send-broadcast.md).
5. **Read the results.** See who received, read, clicked and replied, and why any messages failed. See [Results and errors](/broadcasts/results-and-errors.md).

> \[!NOTE] You can only broadcast **Approved** templates from a **Connected** channel. Contacts who opted out of WhatsApp marketing are left out of Marketing broadcasts automatically.
